Problem about Car title! Help?

I bought a car without a title.. all I have is Report of deposit of fees from DMV I don't know what its. and the letter of the seller that saying he sold this car for me and bla bla bla…
I got this car in cali, and drove back to Kansas.. basically the seller told me when I go back to kansas and go to any auto store, and do the lien sell title.. I did ask around, but there were no place like that..! i felt like i just got scam from him..
I went to DMV , and they told me without the title, the car can not be registered. the car has salvage title on it. So please tell me what should I do now!?what he was saying about to get the lien sell title or watever?? is any other way that I can get the title by myself??? please HELP!!
I did check with the carfax record, the car is not a stolen car, luckily! I don't think that I can report for lost title because the original owner has to release the title or registration .. I went to DMV and ask , the only thing that he told me is .. YOU NEED A TITLE IN ORDER TO REGISTER. PERIOD!

go to the DMV and file for a lose of title sometimes that works sometimes it doesnt….. it worked for one car i had but not another

Go see a car dealer and ask him how you can obtain the title. They have lots of ways people aren't aware of. I sure hope you didn't buy a stolen vehicle. You could be in real trouble for that even if you didn't know. You could be convicted of receiving stolen property, which is a felony in some states. Good luck to you.

Sue the guy for fraud.
The car has a salvage title – so request a copy of it from city courthouse where it was registered.
Note to self – run a Carfax, and get proof of clear title before you buy.

You are going to have to contact the state where it was last titled, probably California. You will need to ask them what the process is to have a title issued to you when you don't have the current title to surrender. You will also need to let them know that it is salvaged titled vehicle. Typically the DMV will want you to get a release or bill of sale from the person on the DMV record listed as the owner. If you can get a release from the registered owner then you can usually do a replacement and a transfer of title at the same time.
After you get a new California title then you can exchange that for a Kansas title and registration.

not sure if you got scammed or not yet, but here is what i would do:
apply for the sell/salvage title in the state where you purchased the vehicle.
use the bill of sale (please tell me you weren't foolish enough not to get one of those) and apply for the salvage title from that state and then transfer the title over to your name in your home state.
the dmv employs humourless and somewhat impatient people who will not a) help you nor b)answer questions. they are there to tag and license only with a frown on their face.
contact the seller again and make sure that you have the proper paperwork. better yet, check with the police in that state and make sure the car you bought isn't stollen. that's a quick fix on if you got jerked or not.

We buy you books, send you to school and you sit in the corner and chew the covers off. LOL I realize it's too late but never, never, never, buy a car without getting the title. For all you know that car was stolen. I'd call the California DMV with the VIN and your sad story and see what they say. Just hope you have some way to identify and locate the scum bag who stuck you with it.

This guy should have given you a title if he had it, not make up some story about a lien sale, because that's for repairs shops and towing companies only. You're going to have to go back to the California DMV (not pleasant, I know, but necessary) and see if the person you bought it from is the the registered owner. If he is, then you need to find a way to contact him.
Kansas DMV isn't lying; they can't do anything for you.
Report of Deposit of Fees means SOMEONE paid to get it registered and titled. Find out who and then you'll be able to get a title.
