buying rx7 body good engine question?

Ok i know this guy that has a 1993 rx7 and has a bunch of court fines so he is selling it. I've seen the car, it has 80,000 original miles, its an auto. with nice interior and a few normal dings on the body. it DOES have a salvage title. The guy said the engine needs new seals (apex seals) and it should be good to go. he said when he wrecked it after the seals went it did start and load and hasnt been started since (a few years). he is wanting $5,500 for it as is. I am thinking about getting it and putting it in a storage garage and working on it when i have some extra cash or having it worked on. U guys think its a good deal?
Its the 13b twin turbo motor. My father used to have a 91 rx7 and thats when rx7's became my dream car. I'm pretty posative my uncle rebuild my dads motor and knows rotary motors inside and out and would be glad to help/teach me cuz i'm very interested. I'm going to get more details on it, call insurance company and find stuff out then make a decision. thanks guys

80K, doesn't run, salvage title and want's $5500. No way.

With the salvage title I would pay no more than $1,000 for this car.
I suggest you call your insurance company and ask if they would even insure a vehicle with a salvage title, and if so, how rediculously high would the rate be?
And if you do go through and buy it, BEFORE you do, make sure you bring it to a mechanic who you trust, to make sure that the frame is still good, if not, dont buy it.
Personally, I wouldnt buy it anyway

Hey shorty, nice car no doubt, but unless you have plenty mula, you may want to pass. 5.5k for a non-running salvage title car is quite abit, rotary engines repairs are very different from piston engines, if you dont have experience its best to farm it out, and that can get expensive.A few years ago used take off motors were available direct from Japan, emmission laws overseas required replacement after x-miles and age which flooded the market with cheap motors, look online for this option. Hope this is useful, I think the engine model is 13b, good luck with your supercar….

I had 3 rx-7's, if the apex seals need to be replaced , most techs won't touch it. Most likely dealer.I ended up just replacing the motor on mine. You can pour some auto trans fluid in the spark plug holes to gain the compression back to get it started but it will happen again. Salvage title is not a death sentence, could be a minor wreck but car was too old for the value, have a qualified person check it out.
Price? He's crazy, it is not worth more than $1000-$1300.
