Auto Accident Rear-Ended?
I was in a car accident about 3 weeks ago. After choosing a repair shop which is also a blue-ribbon provider for my insurance, it’s taken all this time for them to tell me they are going to take my car to another shop for repair because the initial shop doesn’t like to do the repair that the insurance adjuster is recommending.
Ok, here’s the deal I have a 07 Charger that was rear-ended the first shop told me that he would try to pull the rear-end out but he ended up having to cut the rear passenger ¼ panel, replacing the floor pan and some other things, now the insurance adjuster is wanting to do something called a rear-end clip (getting a salvage rear end) to replace the damaged one. I asked the first repair shop owner why he didn’t want to do the repair. He replied that it wasn’t worth the trouble. So of course that sounded a little fishy to me so I called some other local repair shops and was basically told that there was risk involved and liability. I would like to know what the safety risks of such a repair are and I don’t like the fact that I have to send my car to another shop because the first doesn’t want to do the repair.
I just got off the phone with my insurance company about and hour ago and they have decided to total the car. Thanks everyone for your response

I would tell the insurance company that I want a new (or replacement) vehicle. The same year, mileage, and condition as mine. I would INSIST that the car be totalled. Make it clear that you WILL hire an attorney to resolve the matter. Some neck and or lower back pain is a great motivater for the insurance company to give in and do the right thing with regards to your car. GOOD LUCK! Rob in PA.

Listen, I have been in three car accidents in this past year. The damages of the vehicle have to cost more than the car itself. (Nada, Kbb pricing is not the actual cost that the insurance companies use.
If you were rear ended, the insurance company will pay for everything, have the vehicle fixed, call your insurance and have them fight it. Have it fixed by who ever you want they cant tell you where to go. You were rear ended, You are the victim.

A 'rear section assy' replacement procedure is an industry standard repair. If your guy doesn't want to or doesn't know how to do this then it's fair for Nationwide to find a shop that does. If you are having trouble with the insurance company then file a claim through your own. I think I have answered this question before—hummm…
Anyway, forget the dope telling you to 'insist' your car be declared a total loss. Lots of luck on that one. Trust me, I have been insurance claims for 22 years and in the body repair side for 10 years before that. If the shop KNOWS what they are doing then a replacement section is the way to go here. You will have four or five welded seams vs 600 spot welds if you remove the damaged parts and piece together three dozen panels and parts. All factory seam sealer and rust protection remains intact and the repair time is cut in half. Remember, you always have the option of paying for the new panels and additional work yourself if you want to. See for more information about sectioning procedures.
